Livin' Dred Theatre Company based at Ramor Theatre, Virginia, Co. Cavan
BELFRY written by Billy Roche, now being produced by LIVIN’ DRED THEATRE COMPANY …it follows on the heels of their first very successful play, Beauty Queen of Leenane for which Sheila Flitton was short listed in the IRISH TIMES ESB THEATRE AWARDS 2004.
It will run for 14 nights starting on 18TH FEBRUARY 2005 in RAMOR THEATRE which is situated just a little over an hours drive along the main Dublin to Cavan road.
Ramor Theatre is a beautiful restored former Roman Catholic Church and the original window is being used in the backdrop which is really lovely and this promises to be enthralling and highly entertaining.
GREAT CAST LINE UP FOR LIVIN DRED NEXT PRODUCTION OF THE BELFRY
Livin Dred, Cavan’s only professional theatre company have now cast their next play Belfry by Billy Roche. Back again after his fantastic performance in the Beauty Queen of Leenane is Frank Laverty who so enjoyed his last association with the company that he was delighted to work with them again. The four others include Brendan Conroy who has just finished a tour of the Playboy with the Abbey and also featured in the last production of the Field. Deirdre Monaghan who appeared in the Green Fool and who will be known to audiences from Fair City is also among the line up. To complete the picture is Malcolm Adams who featured in Alone it Stands and Stones in his Pockets and Anthony Morris a recent graduate from Trinity College
Padraic McIntyre fresh from his run in the Green Fool is back directing with the group and anyone who knows Padraic’s work will know what a treat they are in for. The play opens on Friday 18th February and will run for fourteen nights. This Billy Roche gem is not to be missed and set in a church which is why the play was so appealing to the group who will be using the backdrop of Ramor Theatre which was originally a church in which to stage it. This includes the use of the original Church windows.
Ramor Theatre opened in 1999, located in Virginia along the main Cavan-Dublin road. It is a beautiful restored building which was originally a Catholic Church. It runs a full programme of events covering all the performing arts including dramas, concerts, musicals, opera and ballet. It is funded by Cavan County Council and the Arts Council.
A magnificent building which holds so much ambiance for those seeking to be entertained in stylish and comfortable surroundings.
Billy Roche was born in Wexford and his plays include as well as Belfry, Poor Beast in the Rain, A handful of Stars and Cavalcaders . Set in a church it tells the story of Artie the local sacristan who while caring for his elderly mother spends most of his time with Father Pat and Dominic, the young alter server – that is until Angela starts to help with the church flowers. The two begin an affair but when somebody tells Angela’s husband Archie is left to fact a life without her. A beautiful and moving story that has some light moments and guarantees wonderful nights enjoyment.

Trasna - International festival of Inclusive Theatre
The Trasna Theatre Festival has been developed by KCAT Art and Study Centre and is the first festival of its kind to be held in Ireland.
‘Inclusive theatre’ differs from mainstream theatre, in that it offers people with special needs and learning difficulties an opportunity to participate in innovative drama.
The festival programme has been carefully designed to appeal to all tastes: from original drama and music to intensely physical and athletic stage-work, from mime, slapstick and burlesque and magical puppetry to high-octane Japanese drumming and a contemporary Australian road-movie, the weekend promises to be a busy and memorable one for both participants and audiences alike.
